Sewer Camera Inspections

A sewer camera inspection is an easy and affordable method to identify and locate any cracks, breaks, offsets or separations in your drain or sewer line. Pinpointing the exact location of any areas of concern allows us to focus and resolve only the problem at hand, instead of replacing your entire sewer line, saving you a significant amount of time and money.

How it works

Your professionally trained VIP Sewer and Drain Services technician inserts a flexible rod with a high-resolution video camera on its tip into the pipe. The flexible rod allows the camera to travel through the pipe revealing the inside of your pipe in its entirety. The technician can then determine the condition of the inside of the pipe and understand any existing or potential problems. During sewer camera inspections, radio transmitters on the camera record the depth and physical location from the surface of any defect or obstructions to accurately diagnose and solve any drain line concerns. There is no guesswork, so your problems will be resolved quickly and cost effectively.

It is important to note that a sewer camera inspection cannot locate an actual leak in your pipe. Camera inspections are meant to reveal the inside of your drains, not what is coming out. While a camera inspection can locate cracks and breaks which can be the source of a leak, further leak detection methods will be required to verify that an actual leak does in fact exist.

When to Ask for a Sewer Camera Inspection

Sewer Camera inspections are performed routinely before and after drain cleaning services, such as hydro jetting, to establish the scope of the problem and locate any weak areas in your pipes. However you can schedule a sewer camera inspection any time you suspect there’s a build up or clog in your drain or sewer.

A Sewer Camera inspection is also helpful when you need to locate the position of your sewer line or want to install a cleanout to have better access to your drain pipes – something we strongly recommend having.

New Home Purchase

A sewer drain is a vital part of any property and therefore it is a good idea to request a camera sewer inspection, before purchasing a new home. Most home buyers choose to get a general home inspection before closing a contract on a new property. What many do not know is that while these general inspections include checking the condition of the framing, roof, electrical and overall plumbing of a property, most home inspections do not include an inspection of the sewer line itself. So a general home inspection may catch something like a leaky fixture or stains in drywall that could be a sign of a leak, but will more often than not omit searching for the actual root of the problem, found inside the drain system. Therefore if there is a problem in the drain system that has not created any visible symptoms inside the home, it will go unnoticed, potentially creating a serious issue shortly after you move in.

Sewer camera inspections are fairly inexpensive yet sewer repairs fall on the opposite side of the scale. Yet many home inspectors won’t consider the sewer line as the extension of your home, overlooking the opportunity to catch a potential problem. Requesting sewer camera inspection is definitely something you should add to your to-do list when searching the market for a new property.
